One of the hardest things in the world is to get your butt off the couch and on the elliptical machine. I know, I’ve fallen off track so many times that I’ve lost count. With Summer right around the corner, I thought I’d give you a few ideas that might motivate you to workout and get that hot beach body.
The first thing you need to do is eat. Yes that’s right, I said eat! Your body will not have the energy it needs to workout if you skip meals, especially breakfast. So, get yourself up tomorrow and start out with a healthy breakfast (oatmeal…egg whites with salsa….whatever floats your boat).
Now that your body has the fuel it needs, write yourself up a little plan. If you don’t know where you are going it is hard to get there, right? Yes, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail! Your plan can be super simple, just make sure you have one. I simply write down the days of the week and what workout I plan to do that day, allowing for at least 2 days of rest per week. My typical workout schedule changes, but is never difficult.
Don’t beat yourself up if you miss a planned workout day. Everyone misses a workout time and again. I have seen some people say, “Oh, well I missed my workout today, so I’ll just start over next week“….and I say, “no, no“! If you miss a workout today, just plow on through tomorrow. Tomorrow is another day for an excellent workout, not next week.
Now, I’m going to talk about some mental mumbo-jumbo that really motivates me. Simply visualize yourself fit and healthy. Visualization goes a long way toward creating your own reality. Not to sound too hokey, but I spend quite a bit of time day-dreaming about what I want and the pieces just seem to fall into place to make it happen. It may be helpful for you to write it out, but either way create a mental picture of who and what you want to be in life. If you have never tried it, spend a few minutes in a quiet room and give it a try. The results may surprise you, or at the very least motivate you to get on that elliptical machine one more time.
Finally, after you have completed one successful month of workout bliss go ahead and pat yourself on the back. Reward yourself with a kickin’ new pair of shoes, a girlfriends beach getaway or some spankin’ new fitness equipment. Whatever you do… don’t make your reward a Whopper!
