Meditation aids and tools to use during meditation

If you can quietly meditate on a lonely hill and feel your body floating through space, that’s great!   Many people, however, find it difficult to simply imagine themselves floating around like a cloud without the use of meditation aids.   Quieting the mind in meditation is quite difficult for beginners.   That is where the use of meditation aids and guided meditation techniques come to play.

One of the most basic aids to meditation is completely free and natural.  It is quite simply, your breath.   Use your breath as an aid to help you to feel the lightness within your body.  With every inhale and exhale, feel as if you are blowing around the sky.  Sounds fruity, I know.  But using your breath as an tool is the primary aid to meditation.

Another meditation aid is the use of music.  Certain tones and musical chords have been shown to stimulate brainwaves, produce deep relaxation, increase the ability to learn, relieve stress, and even promotes healing of the body.    Almost everyone has experienced deep feelings when a favorite song is played, but you should select meditation music that was developed especially for meditation.   Simply download some meditation music from iTunes, or pick up an inexpensive meditation music CD.

Audio guided meditatations are a great aid for beginners, and guided meditations can be found for free online.  Guided meditations are just that, you are “guided” through your thoughts during meditation, which helps you to relax and focus.   I have used several free guided meditation podcasts, found on iTunes.   If you are looking for more instruction, you can purchase complete guided meditation programs or take a guided meditation class at your local yoga studio.

Are you looking for something new and different?  A fun meditatation aid  is ‘The Journey to Wild Divine’ computer video game.   Yes, I said it.   A meditation video game!   The game was developed with the assistance of Deepak Chopra, M.D. and other renowned meditation experts, so it appears to be a credible meditation aid.  In ‘The Journey’ game, you use only the power of your thoughts, emotions, and breath awareness to navigate through “the lush virtual world that is The Passage” .   In the game you “build stairways with your breath, open doors with meditation (and) juggle balls with your laughter“.   Wow.   Technology has gone far hasn’t it?

While ‘The Passage’ game seems really cool, it does carry a heavy price tag.   Have you used ‘The Passage’ game, and did you find it worth the price?    Please leave your comments or reply to me on Twitter.
