Step up your ab workout by taking it down a notch

Are you struggling to get sexy lean abs?  The abs are composed of several different muscles, and you do not hit them all when you do sit-ups. If you are already on the road to getting your abs in shape, do not forget about targeting your lower abs. Before you begin, check out how to REALLY shed belly fat, and then add in a few lower ab exercises that can really add value to your ab workouts:

  • Hanging Leg Raises – these are great but can be a bit challenging for beginners.  Just remember, nothing comes easy and great abs are no exception!  The object is to hang from a bar and bring up your knees (or keep legs straight and bring up to a 90 degree angle).  Lower and repeat for a set of 20 repetitions.
  • Leg Rolls – This is a fairly simple exercise in that you do not need any upper body strength to complete.  Simply lie flat on the floor and lift and lower your legs in a circular motion.
  • Side Turns – Lie on the floor with your legs in the air and arms at your side.  Turn your legs and feet to either side of your body.  You can use resistance to increase the difficulty.
  • Leg Scissors – Lying flat on the floor, support your hips with your hands and your legs straight up in the air. Now move your legs up and down like scissors.

Remember that to keep yourself from injury, you need to have great form. Keep your abs firm throughout the entire workout always using the muscles of your abdomen, not your legs or back, and move slowly.  Remember that it is not a race.  Want more lower ab workouts?  I found this excellent resource for ab exercises while googling around recently.
