Encouraging my children to eat healthy requires a degree in reverse psychology and a background in chemistry. I often resort to cajoling, manipulation and threats to get them to eat their veggies. If that doesn’t work, I just whip up one of the best healthy Orange Julius recipe around… and pray they don’t notice what I put into it.
Everyone loves a yummy Orange Julius. My secret healthy Orange Julius ingredients: vanilla, sweet potato! It was actually Jessica Seinfeld (yes, that’s Jerry Seinfeld’s wife) and her cook book “Deceptively Delicious“ that inspired me to steam and puree everything in sight, and blend colors to disguise wholesomeness. Thus, my Sweet Potato Orange Julius recipe was born.
Here’s the healthy Orange Julius recipe!
2 cups milk or soy milk
2-3 scoops of soy or whey protein powder
1/2 can orange juice concentrate, still frozen
1 cup sweet potato puree (peel, steam to soften, and then puree until smooth)
1/8 cup organic sugar (optional)
1 tsp vanilla
5-10 ice cubes for desired chill and thickness
Toss all of this in your sturdy Kitchenaid or Oster Blender and serve to your hungry fans on a hot day! If you steam and puree your veggies, storing them in freezer-safe plastic bags or ice trays, they won’t even notice you adding the extra nutrition. They will just thank you for one of the health drinks they’ve ever enjoyed!
